Establishing Character
Hello! I guess you’re wondering what this page is all about. Some time ago during our build we’d been looking at interiors seeing what others had done and hoping for some inspiration. It was a hugely interesting and insightful. We saw many really fantastic interiors and finishes and many minimalist professional looking ones along with basic conversions and the interesting people who choose to go for a really funky floor or colouring.
Despite our trawl through thousands of images we never did find anything quite right for us. At home we have a fabulous living room with earthy brown tones and warm reds and oranges, with a few hints of Chinese design in place that really suits the place, in addition I painted a very basic but fun mural, shortly after I moved in.
Even though the living room is probably our favorite room in the flat, we decided that we really wanted to do something different with the van. We are hoping that the trip will get our creative juices flowing to aid our respective projects in the long term. With that in mind we decided to go all out and paint some murals inside! I can hear you saying ‘oh no, it’ll look crazy…’ but bare with me….
The van is aptly named Gandalf, after a character from the films The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. We hugely enjoy these films, they are fantastical, inspiring and uplifting. Heroes are made of ordinary people and your imagination is expanded. The films have such a huge feel good factor for us and have always cheered us up no end and we feel that this ethos fits in aptly with our trip, and the mindset we are aiming for.
So after my long winded explanation, please stick with me through the painting progression, hopefully you can enjoy the journey of Gandalf the vans, art.
